DESCRIPTION:Please note that this event is now full.   We are holding a waitlist in case places become available. \nFor our first real-life get together in a long time\, we have organised an exclusive\, private visit to the award winning Greyfriars winery and vineyard\, set just off the Hog’s Back between Farnham and Guildford. This will be an evening tour on Wednesday 14th July\, starting at 6.30pm\, which will allow us to benefit from the long summer evenings. \nNow under the ownership of Mike and Hilary Wagstaff\, the original vineyard was planted in 1989 and since taking over in 2010\, they have expanded the area under vine to almost 50 acres on three sites focusing on producing stunning English Sparkling Wine. They have also built a brand new winery with state of the art winemaking equipment. \nOur tour will be led by Aaron Gilling\, an enthusiastic and key member of the team at Greyfriars. This will take place largely outdoors amongst their beautiful vines and in the disgorging room where the wines are finished before bottling. \nThose attending will receive a souvenir glass.  And you’ll get 10 per cent off wine purchases after the tour. \nLiz and I went on this tour led by Aaron a couple of summers ago and we think it is the best English vineyard tour we’ve done. \nHow to book your places \nFirstly\, please check availability of places by e-mailing the Chair Keith Cooper. \nWhen you have received confirmation from the Chair that places are being held for you\, please secure your places by making a payment of £25 per person to the Society’s account.  \nAccount Name:  Whitewater WineSoc \nSort Code:  30-91-31 \nAccount Number:  01158564 \nPlease enter a contact phone number to the reference field\, just in case we’re not sure who the payment has come from! \nIt will be great to have a Society event after so long – we look forward to seeing you at Greyfriars! \nDirections to Greyfriars \nThe address is The Hog’s Back\, Puttenham\, Surrey\, GU3 1AG.   Please be careful if relying on your satnav\, as access requires a U-turn on the A31.   So probably best to follow these instructions. \nTake the A31 from Farnham towards Guildford\, (the road most know as the “Hog’s Back”). \nDrive on past the turning signposted “Godalming B3000 and Portsmouth”. \nSoon after entering 50 mph speed limit\, you need to get into the RIGHT HAND lane and use the slip road on the RIGHT HAND side of the carriageway\, signposted “Farnham A31”. At the end of the slip road you turn sharp right to return on the A31 towards Farnham. \nAfter 1 mile\, you’ll find the entrance to Greyfriars on your left. You will see a verge side sign saying “Vineyard and Veterinary Centre”and the turn off for the vineyard is shortly after this. Look for the large white sign at the entrance. (Please DO NOT turn off into the entrance signed “Greyfriars House” which you will pass on the way – this is a private house and is not associated with the vineyard.)
